When you think of Human Resources, employee well-being and managing employment within an organisation comes to mind. At MTR Elizabeth line however, it doesn’t stop there. Our HR department is made up of different teams that are each focused on our most important asset – our people. We keep our colleagues informed of the latest updates across the business and provide advice, support and development opportunities. The department consists of Recruitment, Payroll & Pensions, Communications, Learning & Development, Uniforms and the HR Business Partner team. We build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, actively working collaboratively with other teams throughout the organisation.
The safety of everyone working in our business, our customers and anyone who is affected by our operations is the most important thing for us. Customers expect to get off our services and exit our stations in the same condition as when they entered and boarded them. We all have the right to go home from work at the end of our shift in the same condition as when we started (albeit a little bit more tired!)
Environment impact and climate change affects all of us and as a business we’re having to think differently about how (and why) we operate. Have you seen your energy bills rise recently? Yep, thought so. It’s the same for our business. What about recycling schemes where you live? Do you have to separate waste into different bins? It’s the same for us. Things like energy and waste cost us a lot of money and by making sure we don’t waste energy or send our waste to a landfill site, we can save money and improve the environment.

The Concessions team look after Contract Management with TfL, Track Access Agreements as well as Business Readiness for the upcoming stages in the Staged Opening Plan.
Also under Concessions are both the On Network Functional Requirements and the On Network Stations Improvement Programme station upgrade teams, comprised of various project managers overseeing the upgrade works with both TfL and Network Rail. Together, they ensure we our successfully partnering with key external stakeholders and are meeting all of our Committed Obligations that we have with TfL.
Success isn’t just measured by performance scores and customer service scores, financial performance is incredibly important to the ongoing operations of MTR Elizabeth line. Underpinning the financial success of MTR Elizabeth line is a highly skilled team of financial and accounting professionals who oversee the budgets and track how money is being spent across the business, as well as planning for the future.
In order to be industry-leading we endeavour to utilise the latest technology wherever possible, whether this be the use of VR in training or all frontline staff using iPads. At the heart of ensuring our approach to technology is our IT team who expertly manage the technological needs for the entire company.
I have been working at MTR Elizabeth line as an IT Helpdesk Administrator since joining the company in late 2016. My role requires me to be the first point of contact for IT issues, operating the Helpdesk and assisting all employees within the business. No day is ever the same as I am constantly working to solve different IT issues across our multiple locations.
MTREL’s vision is to connect communities better than anyone else, and helping to make this vision become a reality makes me extremely proud. Enabling the implementation of the Elizabeth line and actively being involved in the operations behind the scenes is a great opportunity for my career development.
